A new marketing tool tickling me to no end is the direct-to-desktop communication that has been developed. You are provided with a special application you install on your computer that allows the provider to communicate with you via your desktop. It is a way to bypass email madness and communicate directly one-on-one. It is generally easy to install, easier to use and unobtrusive.
Taking it one step further, some publishers are using the application to allow you to build a list and communicate with that list via the application. Again, you are bypassing email accounts and the proverbial Sword of Damocles hanging over your head, ever on the prowl against spam.
It is a sort of discussion board without the forum. You are able to access your list periodically - the time frame varies with the publisher - and not have to worry about structuring your message in such a way that it stands a better chance of not ending up in a circular file. (Okay - I'm telling my age here - that means 'trash can' for you youngsters out there.)
There are a number of publishers around but one of the first ones with whom I developed a relationship and I'm kinda fond of is Desktop Lightning. It sits quietly in the background, you have the option to turn it off or keep it quiet and it will periodically let you know when there are messages. You are not bombarded and the messages are not lengthy - regular email size.
I've had good success with having my emails opened, read and responded to - that is always a plus. I suggest it as a viable list building marketing tool.
Desktop Lightning offers a free publication you can get here - 20 Internet Marketing Power Plays. It's full of information that you will find to be of use. Enjoy.
